Solar Pool Heating
Solar pool heating provides you and your family with a cost-effective and environmentally conscious way to keep your pool warm and inviting – even when the weather starts to get cooler. Contrary to popular belief, there is enough solar energy – even in the Northeast – to warm your pool to summer levels.
With solar pool heating, water is:
- Automatically pumped through the solar collectors
- Heated as it moves through the collectors
- Returned back to the pool through the return lines.
Depending on the weather, you can expect your solar pool heater to:
- Raise your pool temperature 2°F to 5°F each time the water passes through the system. With several days of good weather, this could equal an increase of 5°F to 15°F. Add a solar blanket at night to help hold in the heat and make your system even more effective.
- Pay for itself on average, within two to three years if you currently heat your pool with natural gas. However, actual system prices – and resulting payback timeframe – vary based on the location and size of the pool, location of the solar panels, desired temperature and season, and type of pool equipment.
Cost effective, high-performance commercial solar heaters also are available for pools in apartment and condominium complexes, retirement communities, hotels, schools and public facilities. These systems offer economical, efficient heating with minimal environmental impact.
